Prediabetes May Be More Common In Individuals With Family History Of Diabetes.

HealthDay  (8/23, Preidt) reports that research published in Diabetologia suggests that prediabetes may be more common in individuals with a family history of diabetes. Investigators “looked at more than 5,400 people with normal blood sugar levels and more than 2,600 with prediabetes.” The investigators found, “after taking into account age, sex and body fat…that” individuals who had “a family history of diabetes were 26 percent more likely to develop prediabetes.” The study also indicated that the association “between a family history of diabetes and prediabetes risk was seen only in people who were not obese.”
